Meet the illustrator – Jonny Duddle
I spent my childhood in the wet and windy hills of North Wales, exploring forests, riding my bike for miles and miles, scrumping apples and building dens and tree-houses. And when I wasn't outside I was drawing, sprawled across my bedroom floor, paper everywhere and very busy inventing worlds.
I spent my childhood in the wet and windy hills of North Wales, exploring forests, riding my bike for miles and miles, stealing apples and building dens and treehouses. And when I wasn’t outside, I was drawing, sprawled across my bedroom floor, paper everywhere and very busy inventing worlds.
When I realized I had to grow up and get a job, I went to college to study illustration and then got myself a proper job on a pirate ship. I spent a year climbing up and down rigging before jumping ship in Dublin because the ship?s chef didn?t like my vegetarian ways, and followed it up with stints as a children?s entertainer, a gallery security guard (the most boring job ever), and an art teacher in the middle of the Kalahari Desert.
While teaching art, it dawned on me how much I missed drawing things, so I got a job drawing things for computer games for a few years. When my daughter, Daisy, was born, I decided the commute to a big office wasn?t for me and decided to try my hand as a freelance illustrator, so I could have lunch at home and play in the garden.
Nowadays, I spend most of my time drawing, sprawled across my office floor, paper everywhere and very busy creating worlds. When I?m not drawing I like to explore forests, ride my bike for miles and miles, steal apples, and build garden sheds.
